I have attempted to contact you via icq, but you didn't reply so I'll contact you here instead.

Famine tells me you had said to him that NEW players were joining GIL for the most part because they use the same vent. Whoever has started this rumour is not correct in their assumption, as is usual with guesswork.

We didn't have a vent server and GIL offered to let the new folk use theirs....any guild could have offered the same, only GIL did. The fact they are allowed to use the same vent as GIL doesn't have a lot to do with it, if you want to let the new folk have your vent info as well just pass the info on and it will be locked down at NEW house, beside the GIL one, not a problem.

As I have said many times in the past, the fact GIL take new folk out and spend time with them on occasion has a lot to do with whether they would want to join GIL, this is actually the reason a new player will veer toward a guild they have come to know. Again, any guild is free to spend time with new folk, GIL are the only guild that do. Those actions reap better rewards.

Oh come now, Shalimar. You cannot possibly expect anyone to believe that sharing the same vent with NEW members has nothing to do with it. I'd venture to say that under those circumstances, even if GIL never did a thing with NEW members, we'd still see a large number of people joining GIL simply because they are comfortable with them after having spent their first 30 days with them.

im not even gonna argue with this topic. there is no need to cause we know whats up. What's sad is making these "new" feel obligated to join gil cause they get them scrolls or "help" them and are friendly in vent. So now gil has 85 member and all i ever see is around hmm? 5 -9 ever on.

NEW is not a joke. I WAS in NEW. Those power scrolls IF WHEN we got any were donated by DTA and nearly every existing guild existing at that time. The donated scrolls were always the lower end ones more so than the 120s. Shal did not just GIVE em to us any all of em, she did ask what skills our character may be interested in achieving and IF there were scrolls lower end we maybe were given one or 2 of those BUT not the second we entered NEW. Simple reason to deflect those just making newbies to GET free stuff to build a chr. checking em out with talking and time and interviewing em to see even if they may even STICK around on Siege before blowing donations on em from the entire shard.

Sorry but I did not get any pwr scrolls the second I walked into NEW door...she Shal did enough talking with me to determine if my chr. would even stick around a half year or longer...ie worth it to give some 110s to or 105s etc. The 120s are usually not the donated ones...guilds use those them selves for their chrs. or new members or sell em ...unless they do get a zillion of the same ones and we all know which 120s UO overdoses all of us on...and those would be the ones sooner or later go to NEW.

NEW is not a joke ...I was a very experienced UO vet player when I came to SIEGE..NEW was a place to hang my hat ...to get to know other Immigrants and to get to know SIEGE and it's guilds those that came around and took NEW out places we got to know. Others we got to know as *cannon fodder* for em but still one one one...even I got to know some VMP that least I was informed WOULD kill my chr. and thus no surprises...we were told whom possibly would or would not kill us as guild tags but still all guilds were lots more available then than they are now in either courting NEW to show em Siege...or to get to know them other ways like pking em but not neccessarily drylooting em every time just saying welcome.

Lots has changed in 4 yrs. not as many guilds make the time TO get to know those folks with the NEW tag...nor host *get to know Siege* tours or get to know our guild via events when back then there were events held by guilds story night in shire..kss fight nights were all regularly held events.. and DTA and many others always showing their presence around NEW or in towns to say welcome one way or another or to take em TO things even treasure hunts I even got to go on some of those. WE had lots of different guilds back then too more of a community lots more events that many guilds held for each other for the shard for NEW too to become invited to...it is a different set up more so now than before. IF we want more NEW to see us join us we have to also acknowlege em some how ... back to what I once said....many a time before... takes only a few moments to say......WELCOME TO SIEGE...even if we are dead by them those few words mean more than one can even express to enable folks to WANT to join US all regardless of tags of our guilds...and even then dead as hell there WERE VMP that said to me with my NEW tag..welcome...and I said OOOOOO thanks Smile

IT IS UP TO US ALL to reach out to others...I can not say why more end up there or here or wherever cept to say...what we do say do do or do not do..........to those looking for friends here ...makes a difference to em...and not the power scrolls or vents or shared this or that as much as simply that extended hand of hi welcome to siege by all of us that first time...is often why folks stay or go ...people come here not to play alone they come to live or die here hoping for friends guildmates to share their pixel lives with in this pixel world. NEW has always had every guild listed in books there in the guild house..not sure if that is the same now but knowing Shalimar...chances are every guild is listed...if they do not know us..........maybe we need to say howdy more often ??? I know some of us DO this all the time...some do not... and they will join whomever says hi to em or whatever making em feel welcomed..or needed..I hooked up with Lady Pyrite and PyLethius when I first got here cuz both those guilds seemed to always be helpin out NEW one way or another either defending em when they ended up cannon fodder or saying hello or offering accesss to their hunts whatevers and NOT on stuff they maybe gave us...but on the friendship they extended to us...and some vmp I got to know few but still to know some of them were cool too offered a hello welcome..so did some REVVOS back then many others, shire and many of us here too...extending that outstretched hand of friendship or showing us how they hunt letting us join etc. all made a difference some that were NEW with me joined VMP some joined shire some joined DTA etc. etc. the shard as a whole worked more with the many new immigrants we had coming in ...maybe more so then than we do NOW..all of the shard was lots more active then too. *made a difference* almost like everyone was vi ing to get us to join them...that made it really unique and cool to be a part of the community here always working one way or another to show ourselves off to NEW to get em to join to know us to feel in one guild or another they too maybe could find their niche here. ..ie there was lots of recruiting back then too we had active player towns active events etc. way more then than now. Heck I can remember how the ENTIRE shard with sloan and others held that mega tour of siege to even get folks from other shards to try Siege...and lots of players were involved in that once held grand tour of ...this is siege..come check us out tour. *it too got lots more new here than we maybe get even now*

Not saying I agree nor disagree with current issue if there is one.............just saying we as a whole shard did way more once to get more NEW into our guilds than maybe we do do now to get em to join us..any of us.

I will NEVER see NEW as a joke...I see NEW then as now as a guild that enables *immigrants* to discover whom and what siege is all about and it never handed us everything on some silver platter...only a stupid GM would give it all away on folks that maybe are not even gonna stay things donated by all her peers by nearly every guild on Siege...nope she never just handed shit to us on some silver platter...we had to prove we were WORTH what we maybe got ....stands to reason ya do not give away the cupboard to them that are not even gonna work it to try to remain here... nor are already spoiled rotten from wherever they came from...she had her way to show us............that Siege is DIFFERENT and if ya got the balls to try to stick around...maybe maybe ya may get a donated 105 tailoring pwr scroll...if ya showing her ya ARE working that chr. up despite being pkd to death out there ! Smile

WE were given those pwr scrolls donated by nearly every shard usually the lower end pwr scrolls............but not the second she saying hi to us ...unless we had 50 105 tailoring pwrscrolls then maybe we could dump some out cuz no one wanted that many anyhow and 105 aint gonna make em legendary anyhow...and atm we happened to have 50 of the darn fool things hell she kept em locked up...even I as co gm back then was not allowed to just GIVE EM ALL AWAY the second they joined up...no fin way ~!

geeze, i didn't say new was always a joke, i said it is now. i always wondered what the ratio is of how many players stayed after they been tremmilized by new then thrown out to the tuff ways of sp lol

Well, I guess I'm sticking my head on the chopping block here. I believe NEW is an important guild here on the shard. If not for NEW, I would have never found out about TNT. For those of us who come to Seige and don't know anyone here, and don't know all the politics here, NEW is a place to call home till you can afford a home, find out who is who, and it offers friends to train with for a month to at least be able to get around on Seige. You're only there for a month, but it gets you over the hump to being able to somwhat survive and do a little farming to get some gold together to be on your own. I don't know about the whole vent set-up, but I do know that the established guilds that came out on Sundays and did the spawns with NEW got alot of the members after 30 days because relationships were established.

Also, when I was there and asked Shalimar about TNT, I had never met anyone from our guild, but Shalimar spoke highly of Kat and told me about our playstyle. She was always neutral and just tried to help people to make their connections in there to move out and get established.

Same here Leaf, Shal had told us all about EVERY guild out there and we were free to join up with whomever and those guilds whom made an effort to take NEW places or to work with em or just get to know a few of em, usually those players went to those guilds that they got to know or got to know a bit better maybe as their first *guild* till they learned more about the guilds here and found another they fit in with better.

Some NEWs form their own guild with few friends they came over with..ie like 35 CIB members did from Ches. whom all formed WAKA ................. they landed here enmasse and joined NEW after I had long had to exit my 30 days had been over with..by time they got here. I knew some of them from Ches. so I told them about NEW, made a few intros of them to NEW.

Shortly after I got out of NEW I helped for a while to CO gm. I just could not keep up that pace and KSS and my then vendorshops, all at same time back then.

I still help news when I see em either to get em icqs of NEW leaders or co leaders or to tell em how to find their guild house etc. and I try to tell em about our own ever changing guilds here.........and whom to possibly not fully trust... to let them hold their stuff ! Smile

But they got to learn..some learn the harder way some not that naive..they only new here not to UO. NEW just enables em to *get to know our tags* and whom gonna kill em when they are seen by em...so they KNOW. Smile

I often joke when I see some of em and say...IF ya see a red named KRYSTAL...just plan to kiss your ass goodbye but wave tell her I said.....OoOOO hi ! Smile

NEW gives them a home base guildhouse for the homeless and penniless, a place to log out besides town, NEW gets them in the mood to know others whom came over at same time sharing the house together learning they may need each other in some in game emergency ie they learn to use MAP in game NEW map or whomever lets em share a vent on a separate channel from their main vent. and they learn ...dying in a game is really not any big deal ! RL DIRTNAPPING is lots harder to ...res from and that is THE only death that matters not any pixel game deaths ! I often took NEW out to walk with nothing on em all over SIEGE just to BECOME killed so they get used to it. . like a grand tour of seeing monotone grays...hues of grays. Smile

And NEW also provides Siege with a way to get to know THEM...30 days is not long but it often is long enough to find out whom NEW can trust as a guild...as with any guild here whom they can trust with a pile of chests in the home set to guildmates or..to find out said person or persons is likely to become someone that also rips off every Siege guild of their stuff as they may have done in NEW guild chests in NEW guild house.

I seen it there too when I was helpin Co GM...over the period of say several months there be NO incidents from any new ones whom this shard nor NEW really has no information nor knows about their character yet...then one day ya walk in there ..the entire guild house seems like it got ripped off...the shard then learns *insert this NEW chr. name here* will likely also RIP off your guild's chests of stuffs too. NEW is also the reputation lines drawn in the sand of unknowns that possibly no one on Siege even knows yet...more beyond how well they live or die or pvp or pvm or whatever...CAN THIS character be TRUSTED with any guilds stuffs ??? Did we see this NEW script or rip off the guild house or etc. ? The shard as a whole learns the *character* of said characters often from what they maybe were seen doing or not doing TO IN NEW as players do they cheat ? rip off the guild of all their stuffs etc. ? or CAN they be trusted by...the rest of us entering OUR guilds ?

We DO learn that too with those that have entered NEW..and as NEW learns it..so too does SIEGE ...we all know those few times we all got character names of whom NOT to let into our guilds cuz they ripped off NEW. .or let em in at your own risk. NEW a place where SIEGE gets to know any new unknowns character makeup many a time...they trustworthy or crap ...we do get to find out often via NEW that they joined ...get references about em..via their short stint in how they behaved in a guild called NEW..it can reflect how they might behave in OUR guilds.

Actually my time in NEW was like spring 4 + yrs ago on Siege. . or has it been 5 yrs. by now ..time flys.. hrmm ! Sad

I had been playin since 98 and insurance seemed stupid and pissed me off so I ended up here and there and here and there. Smile

My time in NEW was also defending my homes and friends from solen ants and matriarchs and ophidians all over Moonglow...which back then hell most of my homes were on Ches. and being invaded so I created a house just to res the dead there so my stint in NEW was here and there and there and here whenever someone needed a res I would pop over there to res folks clear my lawn of insects, then back here to be NEW tending to my first vendor home here NEW HOPE..back and forth again and again. Smile

I think I had some few chrs. on napa but I never stuck around there often. Old school ches. and Europa oft were the shards I liked best pre tram oh and Atlantic for a while there but mostly Ches. Siege even hung out there when they wiped it just never made any chr. here to STAY here back then in 99..actually my Joesef was made on siege that far back and just sat here..unfinished for years. He was here before I ever made Miranda or Hughes of Gray here on Siege. He tamed ponies for newbies here but *after EA put in bonding* I only gave them ONE..to stable till it bonded if they didn't listen to me as Joesef, and lost that horse I told em..told ya to let it BOND first...so ya out of a mount now ! This is Siege ! LOL

hated AOS too age of sh** and items...I still see AOS and the REN cd as the worst they created. REN cd literally tore Chesapeake in half...some refusing to even see trammel some refusing to stay behind in the fel side post tram...tore up guild towns galore, guilds shattered to bits worse nightmare they created. Even if they felt that they HAD to make trammel there shoulda been better ways to do it besides destroying older old school guilds and communities all over the place like that. Sad

It is amazing that Paxlair still stands 10yrs old that Richard Garriott himself *blessed* a sign over the one tower entry..fel side there still standing but most of the players hang tram side, I barely can get any newer folks to even tour pax for historic reasons let alone go attend events or meetings there. Mostly just us older vets go there now, the new ones, they so fear being pkd that I seldom get any to come with me even on glorious lord or lady blue chrs. they even fear my chrs whom do not kill em, to try to get em to at least tour 10 yrs of UO history worth the visit, huge still standing town like that still standing active 10 yrs of history.. back when we had seers and customer service and the rest like new content all fel side ONE ruleset one community together ...till they destroyed it all like some *Berlin wall* separating everyone done UO style.

Twas a damn mess ! And insurance really did piss me off, I seen folks *insuring* my one tailors gm boots ..which cost them only 110 gp to buy insured for 600 insurance ..like DOH !!! So that in turn is what so pissed me off I came here...I am not into drylooting but for crying out loud simple things that yeh crafters can remake for anyone should NOT ever have been subjected to *insurance* .......put us all out of work !! LAME ! *still pissed about it* even in fel side ches. I am 999.99 percent the only flake out there whom refuses to insure !! I die I loose it or ..I travel light whatever I don't feel any of us.. need Insurance in a pixel game that is supposed to be about .... risk ! !

Ya know I really have no clue. I have not been tested on wpm since high school which was AGES ago and back then it was 70 wpm.

But my husband is pissy at me cuz he wanted to get me a new keyboard cuz he can not read mine..ie many of the letters are worn off. I thought to myself muhahaha he WONT USE my computer cuz I refused to let him get me a new keyboard. I just joked and said asdfghjkl;' have not moved since highschool typing classes ya know...the letters still in the same places....even on computer keyboards that are bald of the letters ! Smile

asdfghjkl;'qwertyuiop[]1234567890-zxcvbnm,./ and half of those are missing off my keyboard cuz they faded ! LOL I DUN need a new keyboard this one still works quite fine just ya GOT to know where ye letters ARE on this foo' thing ! Smile

lol As to how fast I type wpm no clue...probably spent 60 seconds or less just typing this out JK &...I TALK that fast too rl

I was in Hell's Angles (HA) GM was kerg we hung together alot. popular guy was scarecrow geeze cant think of all thier names and played with them for 5 yrs or so lol. we were allied to Thieves of Brittain (tb) gm was Tom, it was the biggest guild in uo like over 200 thieves in it. man, we used to para people then box them and steal all thier stuff.. opps off topic:P Anyway we used to own the britt cross roads, we were always there. we quit when trammy came out, went to SP, hung at safe haven. then when AOS came out WC all quit. im only one that stayed lol

yeah I didnt really enjoy it but I did make alot of gold because of Trammel, a friend had a tower that was all vendors, if you kept stock you could keep your vendor for free...I think I had the only stocked alchemy vendor on Napa...I could never keep up with the demand...
